The Health Care Reform Debate
August 4th, 2009 2:04 PM

Regardless of which side of the health care reform debate you are on, your future health depends on what is decided.  Consequently, you have a right and a responsibility to be informed and make your opinion known.

There are many arguments making the rounds, especially on the internet.  Where can you go to find the truth?

The first place to go is to see what is being proposed.  Here is how you can find the full text of (and an index to)the bill introduced into the House: what is called, "HB 3200: America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009". To start there click on How to find the Democrats' Health Care Bill.

Next go to the index of the bill, or find some sources on the internet that point to areas of particular interest to you (and potential problems also).

Change or die? 10,000 steps a day could change your health forever

Click here to read the entire article.

Fear of death is a powerful, but often only temporary, motivator. When the swine flu frenzy subsides, people will go back to their normal behavior. That includes going to work sick and forgetting about all the hand-washing — even though the threat of getting sick with many diseases still exists.

Doctors have observed the same pattern in many post-heart attack patients. Studies show that within a few months as many as 80%1 of patients go back to the same behaviors that landed them in the hospital.

This suggests that doctors have little success scaring patients into changing destructive behaviors. Permanent behavior change comes from a change in perspective, not fear.

Dr. Dean Ornish2 is an expert in changing at-risk patient behavior. His groundbreaking 1993 study revealed two factors in successful behavior change: (1) focusing on positive, immediate results rather than the avoidance of negative consequences; (2) fostering willingness to adopt immediate, radical change.

Resource for Seniors--9 News Senior Source
April 7th, 2009 9:05 AM

Do you know about 9 News Senior Source?  This very helpful site has extensive information and links to multiple resources for Senior Adults.

This is a sample of what is offered there.

"Senior Veterans of our nation’s Armed Forces are eligible for numerous benefits as a result of their service to our country. Of the 25 million veterans currently living, nearly three of every four served during a war or an official period of hostility. About a quarter of America’s population - approximately 70 million people - are potentially eligible for benefits and services because they are veterans, family members or survivors of veterans. From insurance to health guidance, it’s worth exploring the resources available to those who have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom.

The Senior Law Book has an extensive explanation of Veteran benefits. Learn more: "

By the way, the Senior Law Book is available free.  Check it out.  More to come on it here later.

Social Security tied to Medicare use
October 27th, 2008 7:42 AM

Did you know that you will lose your Social Security benefits if you opt out of Medicare in order to try to obtain your own medical care, which you believe will be better than that under Medicare limits?

That’s scary, and shocking if it’s a harbinger of things to come as the federal government gets more involved in health care (regardless of who becomes President). What other freedoms could be lost if you want to run your life or your business in some way other than what the government mandates?

Click here to see the article, “Senior Liberation Act: Why you can’t get Social Security if you refuse Medicare” at the Wall Street Journal’s Opinion Journal.com.

New Website for Senior Adults
June 12th, 2008 6:01 PM

New website?  Why?

When I was able to start getting a “Senior Coffee” at McDonald’s, I figured I might as well admit that I was one. That was a few years ago.

Many of my friends and clients fit that category also. We have some special concerns about our homes that were not a problem when we were raising our families. Since I like what I do and am not ready to retire, I’ve started to focus on the needs of “Senior Adults” (for my purposes it’s everyone from Empty Nesters and Baby Boomers to “The Greatest Generation”—for example, my wife’s parents just now have their home under contract and will soon move to an assisted living community).

One part of this focus is a new website that’s being designed with Senior Adults in mind: www.DenverSeniorsHousing.com. It’s just been started, so there is a lot of room for improvement. However, it should be helpful to you or others you know who might want to sell their current home and move to a place that fits them better.

I will still keep this original website (www.AntleProperties.net), and I still want to help first-time homebuyers and others (the grandchildren and children of us “Seniors”). They also need a Realtor® they can trust to help them move into or out of a home. It’s just that special needs require a special approach. Thus the new website.

Please check it out, and help me make it better by sharing your thoughts about it.
